TOP TIP – Making Your Mark!

In addition to the well-known and fairly universal  use of demarcation strips to define swimming lanes, they are also used as ‘signposts’ to swimmers  – alerting them to perimeters, access and exit points and, most importantly, sudden changes in depth. All of which is vital information for your swimmers to have to ensure their own safety.

A common area for slips and trips is on steps which are often found in learner pools. Water and light-reflection make it difficult to judge both the depth of water and the width and rise of the steps – a particular problem in mosaic tiled pools. Demarcation can be twofold in this situation –contrasting coloured tiles give a visual signal, and the use of an anti-slip surface gives a tactile one.
