Many swimming pools centres feel that they have to drain their pool to conduct work in the plant room pipelines or to work on plant pipes, valves and grills throughout the circulation system. This is certainly not always the case. Commercial & Specialised Diving have worked with a variety of swimming pool systems and had to blank off various sized pipes. This can be done at a fraction of the cost of draining the pool.
Blanking is the process of capping off a pipeline. This is usually done in order to test or work on areas of the pipe without the interior substance being present and causing problems. The alternative to this is draining swimming pool, however you run the risk of structural damage which should be avoided at all costs! Not to mention the cost of chemicals, re-filling and re-heating.
Most recently we have conducted a job in Lincolnshire where we blanked off 3 separate pipes in order to change out the valves in the plant room. In this case, we were able to offer an alternative to draining the swimming pool. This has helped our client to save the cost of re-filling the pool (including heating & replacing chemicals) and the pool was able to be re-opened to the public on schedule.
