New RNLI Centre Opens

It is fantastic news to see that The RNLI have opened the new all-weather lifeboat centre (ALC) in Poole, Dorset. This building will be used for the building of brand new lifeboats. The building is expected to produce 90 new jobs for the local area and save the charity in excess of £3 Million a year once fully up and running.

Commercial and Specialised Diving are proud to have assisted the RNLI with a variety of work. This included an extensive anode installation to a newly constructed sheet pile wall around this new ‘Coventina’ building and a similar quantity on the existing sheet pile walls of the RNLI College. Walls were prepared by the localised removal of marine growth and surface corrosion, before underwater welding to attach new anodes across the water front at the College.

We also removed the cofferdam, a temporary enclosure that allows for dry construction work in a body of water. This allowed the construction of the new concrete slipway at the Coventina building.

All of this work was completed on time and on budget in order to help create and sustain the newly opened building. We wish the RNLI good luck with their new venture and look forward to working with them again in the future.
